FAQ

Common questions

How do I invoice a solar install in stages?
Most residential solar is billed across a few points in the job: a deposit, a payment once the permit clears, one when the install is finished, and the last after the utility signs off. List the full job on the invoice, then use the amount due now line for the stage you are billing. The customer sees the whole picture and the amount they owe today.
What should the invoice show about the tax credit?
Show the total system cost clearly and itemize what it covers. That is the document their tax preparer needs. Do not work out the customer's credit for them or promise a figure on the invoice, because what they can actually claim depends on their own tax situation.
Should equipment and labor be separate lines?
Yes, and it is worth listing the panel and inverter models too. Warranty claims and rebate applications both get asked for equipment detail later, and it is far easier to have it on the invoice than to go back through job photos for it.
Is the solar invoice template free?
Yes. Fill it out and download it as a Word file or PDF. No signup, no watermark. Several pages ranking for solar invoice template are a blank generic invoice with the word solar in the title and nothing solar in the document.
